OBITUARY OF JOSEPH JONES

 

Immokalee lodge member and troop 260 Scout Master JOSEPH JONES, Jr. died Sunday, September 2nd, 2007 at him home in Americus.
 

AMERICUS — Graveside services for Mr. Joseph Jones Jr. of 134 Pike Place, who passed on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at his home, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, from the Eastview cemetery. Bishop Arthur Fulton will officiate and burial will follow immediately afterwards. Wake services will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 in the chapel of Barnum Funeral Home. 

 

Mr. Joseph Jones Jr. was born in Sumter County on May 18, 1946, to the parentage of the late Mr. Joseph Jones and the late Mrs. Leola Mathis Jones. He had a love for helping people; therefore, he became an active member of the community and was involved in the Civil Rights Movement, Scout Master of Troop #260, District Commissioner, a member of the executive committee for the Thronateeska District, St. Bartholomew Lodge #177, Rohoma Chapter #200 OES. He was presently serving as Ulysses Hill Royal Arch Mason. 

 

Left to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Mrs. Mary E. Jones; two grandchildren which he raised, Jeremy and Miesha; son, Mr. Joseph Jones III; four daughters, Ms. Mamie Allen, Ms. Yolanda Jones, Ms. Gloria Jones and Ms. Demetrious Mathis; five brothers, Mr. Bobby Mathis, Mr. James Jones, Mr. McArthur (Idella) Jones, Mr. Fred (Mandy) Jones and Mr. Moses (Cathy) Mathis; four sisters, Ms. Mary E. Tucker, Ms. Paula K. Jones, Ms. Dana Jones and Ms. Geonna Jones; 14 other grandchildren, and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.
