Prior to the end of World War II (or the late 1940s) scouts attending an event received a neckerchief slide rather than a patch. Chehaw Council has a long history of Okefenokee Swamp camping extending into the 1970s.
This neckerchief slide was a gift from Ralph Ellis to Mike Greene. Ralph Ellis was on the Chehaw Council staff from late 1943 through 1945 and lead the 1944 group to the Okefenokee from Chehaw Council. This appears to be the earliest use of the Indianhead design by Chehaw Council. The neckerchief slide is made of thin leather and has two rivets holding it together on the back. (It was cut on the back and flattened to allow for display and storage) |
